Join Us for The Philosopher's Yard Meetup: Exploring "Justice & Fairness"

In this session, we will turn our attention to Justice & Fairness: How would you define justice and fairness? Does being fair always mean treating everyone the same, or is it sometimes fairer to help some people more than others? When you hear the word justice, what does it mean to you in everyday life? Should upbringing or luck affect what someone is entitled to or how they are treated? How would we set up society if we wanted no one to be treated unfairly or unjustly?

This meetup will feature a short talk from Sara Blake-Sealey, a Philosophy and Sociology student, exploring how critical thought about human behaviour and society can be applied in practice. Building on this interdisciplinary training, she hopes to pursue a career in law, studying ethics, equality, and the social institutions that shape opportunities. In her pressentation, Sara will introduce John Rawls’ theory of "justice as fairness", challenging us to consider what a truly just & fair society might look like.

As always, The Philosopher’s Yard provides a neutral, welcoming space for dialogue and reflection. Whether you are well-versed in political philosophy or simply curious about the nature of authority and responsibility, this is an opportunity to share your perspectives and listen to diverse viewpoints from fellow thinkers.

The event will take place at BRIG Café at The Warehouse, located in the Birmingham city centre. The ambiance is perfect for connecting with others who, like you, are searching for deeper understanding and meaningful connections.
